KAIROS
BEGINNINGS
Kairos is an International Christian Ministry. Kairos Prison Ministry International, Inc. is the parent organization of a body of ministries operating as Chapters that are located in many States and Countries addressing the spiritual needs of incarcerated men, women and children, and to their families and to those who work in the prison environment. Oregon is a chapter of KPMI.
Our Kairos Inside program currently operates in 350 prisons in 33 states in the U. S. and 8 additional countries: United Kingdom, Australia, South Africa, Costa Rica, Honduras, Nicaragua, Peru and Canada. More than 170,000 incarcerated men and women have been introduced to Kairos, since its inception. The current number of volunteers exceeds 20,000 per year.
OUR BEGINNING
Washington Kairos was instrumental in coordinating volunteers and meetings that formed our State committee. The State Chapter Agreement was signed on November 5, 2011.
Debbie Fullmer, Oregon State Chairperson said,
"We are all very excited to be called to this special ministry and are looking forward to meeting
with Oregon State Penitentiary personnel. We could not have done all of this without the
incredible help and support that we received from Kairos of Washington. Rob Michie and other
Washington volunteers have been instrumental in every aspect of putting this together."
This expansion has been the work of many dedicated Kairos volunteers, who are the heart and
soul of the ministry. Much time and effort go into to becoming established in a new state and it is
the direct result of many hours and planning and fund raising. The local Teams rely solely on
contributions and other fundraising events in order to finance each Kairos Weekend. The
Weekend also requires agape and cookie makers, and prayer warriors to make it a truly
successful experience. Check out our Be Involved page.
From our inception , there had been hopes and hard work to get Kairos inside the Oregon Prisons. Through many meetings and change of personnel, as of 2014, we have been given permission to start the program at Snake River penitentiary. This will require much planning and team building. Those Men interested in serving should contact Kevin Mallon. (see our contact page)
In the mean time we continued with the Kairos Outside program.
Kairos of Oregon had their first Kairos OutsideWeekend in Nov. 2013.
